Getting there by any means

I have very strong memories of starting out in Family Therapy with the year one course at Derby with Gary and Hilary in 1995. Each week I would make the hour each way journey on my trusty East German motorbike often arriving wet and cold and making a bit of an entrance taking off the layers of waterproofs. The course introduced me to concepts and ways of thinking I had not come across before and have influenced my work ever since. At the time I was working part -time in CAMHS and part-time in a motorcycle shop, following year one I stuck with therapy full time and went on to complete my Family Therapy MSc in Oxford. I have now been a therapist for over 20 years but still, remember and use Gary’s therapeutic anecdotes and Hilary’s explanations of complex ideas
